My name is Alison Carr, I am hoping to make
your stay away from home more comfortable by supplying you with the sweets you
grew up on and became good friends with over the years.
A few years ago, I packed up my bags like all good
Australians and went on my working holiday in Europe, based in London, where I
met my now husband Paul.
When I came back in Sydney, with Paul in tow, I
kept asking him if there was anything he was missing, as his family had
naturally asked me to make sure he was OK. Paul response was his family and
"football". January 2001 saw my sister in law, Ann and parents in law, Joan and
Peter arrive for a few weeks and they turned up with enough chocolate to open up
a shop - everything from Yorkies, Double Deckers, Boost and good old Cadbury's
chocolate. Unbeknown to me, Paul has been on to the phone to his family asking
for some supplies to see him through the summer and the long winter of West
Ham's football season he was following from afar.
When I worked with a great English lady over in
Perth, Susie, who mentioned there was a sweet shop. Susie sent Paul a selection
of cola cubes and bon bons, I wish I had a picture of his face upon opening
them. He then spent the next four hours reeling off all the sweets that his
local sweet shop, Quintens, used to sell and how they used to come in a bag.
Needless to say Susie sent over many more bags of sweets before I started Treats
From Home.
So that’s the story of my shop and this site. I
was lucky to have the Australia shop for me in London to help me out and I'm
hoping you'll want some "treats from home" in the not to distant
future.
